How to Make Work Fun | Bree Groff
Stop looking at work as something you have to “get through” five days a week. This week, we’re sitting down with Bree Groff, a senior advisor at SYPartners and the author of Today Was Fun, to rethink our relationship with work, productivity, and the limited time we actually have. It’s not about completely rewriting the way we interact at work, but reframing those interactions and being willing to try something new. Sometimes, it can be as simple as asking a small question, making a new connection, or creating space for a more honest conversation. Bree guides us through some of the small but meaningful ways we can make a difference.
We’re only given a finite amount of time on this earth, so why do we wish away so much of it by hoping to simply “get through the workweek”? Drawing on years of consulting experience with organizations across industries, Bree argues that work doesn’t have to be miserable. It probably won’t be magical either, but it can, and should, be mostly fun, most days. That shift starts with leaders who are willing to acknowledge reality, have honest conversations about capacity, and act as narrators for what their teams are experiencing instead of forcing positivity where it doesn’t exist.
We explore the ever-tipping scales of work-life balance, why so many of us feel overworked, and what role AI should play in making workplaces better for the people in them. Bree challenges us to protect the things that give our lives meaning but don’t show up on a work spreadsheet: relationships, health, creativity, and small moments of joy. And how does that joy manifest? Is the answer a nice pair of stretchy pants? Well, that’s for us to know and you to find out. If you find yourself staring down Monday like it’s an obstacle you have to overcome, we invite you to listen in, rethink how you spend your days, and practice a little simple joy.
