January Blues? How to Rest, Reflect, and Restart
The holidays are over, the calendar is wide open, and suddenly the energy you had a few weeks ago is just…gone. While January is supposed to feel like a “fresh start” many of us end up feeling like we’ve hit an emotional wall.
Never fear though, Kurt and Tim are to the rescue! (Kind of). This week, we’re unpacking why the “January Slump” feels so real and, more importantly, why it is not a personal failure. Drawing on behavioral science and fresh start thinking, we explore what actually changes when the calendar flips from December to January. January is the perfect storm of lowered motivation: everything from artificial time markers to shortened days is working against you to make that slump feel real and insurmountable, but it doesn’t have to be.
Instead of rushing into big goals and year-long planning, we make an argument for reflection, recovery, and shorter milestones to help you rebuild your momentum at a more manageable pace. If January feels harder than it should, this episode offers some helpful hints over what to do next.
